Eight Tips For Back To School From RUWIB!

Updated: Aug 31, 2021

As the end of summer approaches, school comes around once again. Whether its your first year at Rutgers Business School or your final year, you could definitely use a little help once in a while. No need to worry, our spectacular executive board is here to help!

  1. "Stay Organized and Set Simple SMART Goals Throughout the Semester." Our very first tip comes from our President, Naiomi Coste. Naiomi is the queen of staying on top of her responsibilities. Using her phone and the physical calendar has helped her intensely organize my time to study, network, attend school events, and have time for other activities. Naiomi said, "Setting goals before the semester starts and throughout the semester reduces stress and encourages me!" It's always great to set goals and reward ourselves with food, free time, or anything that makes us feel good.

  2. "Know Your Limits and Understand the Value of Your Time!" Our second tip comes from our very first Executive Vice President, Jamie Mercado. Jamie is always making the most out of her time and making sure she spends it wisely. By constantly juggling between clubs, jobs, school, and family, she learned to prioritize time for what's most important to her. Jamie understands that time is limited, so it's essential to make the most of every minute of it. Jamie's best way to balance her busy schedule is to use her planner to block off time frames for things like studying, work, family time, and more.

  3. "Take Advantage of College Resources" Our third tip comes from our Treasurer, Yashila Sharma. Yashila knows Rutgers inside and out! Her favorite RBS resource is LinkedIn Learning! Yashila says, "LinkedIn Learning is free for Rutgers Business School students, so learn about the basic knowledge of courses that you're taking in your coming semester; It'll help you to learn better, engage, and excel!"

  4. "Take Some Time to Unglue and Reconnect" Our fourth tip comes from our Vice President of Corporate Relations, Cynitha Criollo. Cynthia says, "We live in a state where we either spend 30 seconds on something or give our undivided attention to a specific task and lose ourselves. Don't study too much, don't have fun too much, don't overdo something because something else goes unnoticed that will discourage you from what you've been building. Set boundaries that will allow you to do everything and anything with moderation."

  5. "Plan Ahead!" Our fifth tip comes from our Vice President of Community Service, Samantha Trio. Samantha is always looking for new innovative ways to keep up with her busy schedule. Samantha's favorite way to keep track of her school schedule is to get all her assignment due dates in advance and organize her semester. Samantha sometimes even looks at social media platforms like TikTok to help her implement new methods for success. Samantha says "that this will save you from turning in late assignments and allow you to stay organized!"

  6. "Stay Focused!" Our sixth tip comes from our Vice President of Member Relations, Leslie Placencia. Leslie emphasizes that focus is key for a successful semester. Little things such as turning off your phone can make a big difference when you're studying. Leslie reminds us that "Rutgers can be hard, and you don't need any distractions!!"

  7. "Don't Be Afraid To Put Yourself Out There!" Our seventh tip comes from our Vice President of Marketing, Emily Pina. Emily has made the most out of her experience at Rutgers. Emily has put herself out there and has been very involved in the Rutgers Community. Emily knows there is plenty of opportunities out there. With motivation like hers, you can succeed at anything you put your mind to! Emily says, "by following my advice, I've been able to get on the executive board of two organizations I love, I've been able to obtain a spot in highly competitive programs, and have been recognized by recruiters and professionals for my involvement."

  8. "It's Okay To Ask For Help" Our eighth and very last tip comes from our Vice President of Graphics & IT, Geetika Padala. Geetika has learned that if you don't reach out for help, no one will help you or make an effort to ask questions. This tip has allowed her to access more "hidden" opportunities and allowed her to create more new connections.
